Allium Place is a mixed-income residential community that reimagines a prominent site along Montgomery County’s Veirs Mill corridor. Located at the intersection of Randolph Road and Veirs Mill Road, the project advances the County’s vision for a more connected, walkable, and inclusive commercial center between Rockville and Wheaton. The redevelopment introduces 192 affordable residences alongside a broad mix of housing types—including single-family homes, townhomes, garden-style apartments, and multiplexes—to create a more complete and attainable range of living options.

At the heart of the plan, a central linear park organizes the community and links the existing neighborhood to new residential buildings and shared amenities along the commercial edge. Framed by mid-scale buildings and active frontages, this green spine strengthens pedestrian connectivity, supports daily social interaction, and reinforces a sense of shared public life. The project also addresses the area’s “missing middle” housing gap through a series of three-story multiplexes that provide a careful transition between larger multifamily buildings and surrounding lower-density homes. Along the southern edge, single-family homes developed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity reflect the scale and character of the adjacent neighborhood. Through its combination of affordable housing, community-centered open space, transit access, and sustainable landscape strategies—including native planting and stormwater management—Allium Place transforms an obsolete site into a resilient, equitable, and distinctly local model for suburban infill.
