Anthem’s need to renovate its existing headquarters building, as well as the need to provide for space due to growth, has resulted in a master plan for a new campus. The campus is located on Anthem’s existing property in Richmond, Virginia. The purchase of an adjacent 11-½ acres of land to the south has allowed them to remain at their current location; and ultimately create a 750,000 gross square foot campus. Anthem’s expansion will be in two phases. First, a new five-story, 280,000 gross square foot building has allowed the population of the existing building to be relocated. Subsequently, the existing 265,000 gross square foot building will be completely renovated; and a connector between the two buildings will be constructed. The addition of a future third building will complete this campus.

Sustainability features:

▪ Underfloor air – uses less energy
▪ Energy air efficient high performance glass
▪ Partial grass roof (22,000sf): protects the roof and controls water run off so less taxing of utilities. Also, sun can’t degrade building’s roof materials
▪ T5 Fluorescent Lamp Technology – most energy efficient bulbs
